Sharon Simpson – 2nd September 2017 – 25k Trek Fest (Peak District)

TrekFest – the UK’s ultimate trekking challenge

The Peak District is home to stunning scenery and more than lives up to its reputation as one of Britain’s most inspiring National Parks. Both routes start in the beautiful Hope Valley – the heart of the Peak District home to picturesque and ancient landscapes. The 25km route encompasses part of the enchanting Ladybower reservoir.

They leave the Event Village with the other route and head straight through Castleton. We will then get a feel of the beautiful Peak District countryside as we arrive at Hollins Cross, followed by walking through Edale. As we exit Edale we leave the other route behind and continue towards Nether Booth Farm and the beautiful Ladybower Reservoir. The route will join the reservoir path and follow the reservoir before heading back to the Event Village.

About Sharon

In Sharon’s own words, why she did the event.

“I met my husband when he was in his early 40’s when he was fit and healthy and playing football twice a week. He was diagnosed with Alpha 1 when he was 48 and by the time we married just 2 years later he was already struggling with his breathing. Just 9 years later he was on oxygen most of the day and a double lung transplant was his only chance of survival. In December 2013 he received the gift of life from a wonderful organ donor and now we are making the most of every day we have as a couple and with our family.

We have already raised funds for the Freeman Heart and Lung Transplant Association and now want to raise money for the Alpha 1 awareness charity so that more research can be carried out to find a cure for this condition and save many lives.”

As of 2nd September 2017, Sharon has raised £904 for Alpha-1 Awareness UK which is an astounding amount. Alan & Emma Wooler were able to meat up with Sharon just before the trek and it was lovely to meet her and her husband Steve.

Bumped into a couple who’s friend is an Alpha waiting for transplant so she knew all about it and many others asked me about it en route so hopefully I’ve raised awareness in some small way as well as some funds. “
