Cai’s dad Byron has Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) and was diagnosed 16 years ago. This is a type of rare lung and liver disease. Cai’s letter he wrote in the photo it all about how he sees the effect this awful disease has on his dad. Over the last 5 years we have been back and fore to Newcastle hospital waiting to go on the lung transplant register. Unfortunately a year last January after a month in hospital he was told that this is now not an option because he has osteoporosis of the spine. So now he just tries to keep going and with 17% lung capacity, it is a struggle every day.
Cai’s older brother shaved his head and raised money for red nose day last year so Cai wanted to do the same for Alpha 1 Awareness. This charity does a great job supporting people who have families affected by this disease and improving the understanding for both patients and doctors. They also donate to the research being carried out to find a cure. Byron has also participated in 3 trials in the last 15 years but none have been successful.
Cai is growing his hair which is usually kept short and I will be shaving it off at the end of the month!
If you would like to support Cai please can you sponsor him and thank you in advance.
As of the 30th August 2018, Cai has raised an astounding £820 for our charity.
