Lung Volume Reduction
Lung Volume Reduction is especially promising in the case of target zones in the apical lungs. There is some concern about the outcome in the case of basal pulmonary emphysema which is typical for AATD patients. Studies have shown that AATD patients return to baseline figures after 6 to 12 months. Further deterioration is found after 2 years.
At some point your consultant may ask you if you want to go on the transplant waiting list. If you agree, then you will go on an assessment which involves 3 or 4 days in hospital and a lot of tests. If accepted you will be put on the waiting list to await a suitable single or double lung.
